Steiger 2200 Specialty Dozer
This 2200 dozer was special ordered by a contractor in Wyoming. the customer wanted it custom built to his own design and specifications. The people at Steiger told the customer that it had several design flaws and they suggested several design changes that would improve operation. The customer demanded that it be built to his own specifications and finally Steiger agreed to build it his way. When it was completed the customer did not like it an refused to take delivery. After quite some time the machine had some stuff reworked and was re painted a few times the 2200 finally left the Barn. It is not known for sure if the original contractor finally purchased the 2200 or if it was sold to some one else. This is a one if a kind machine. Clifton Johnson spent a lot of time working in this machine and he was nice enough to share this information with me.
This 2200 Specialty Doses had a 6v71 Detroit with a 4 speed PowerShift transmission with a torque converter mounted between the engine and trans. The blade could be mounted on either the front or the back. The blade was split in the middle and each side could be moved independently so it could be a forward v for pushing, a reverse v for plowing, straight or angled to either side. it could also be tilted up and down on either side too. The driver controls could be switched around allowing it to be driven forward facing or rear facing. Very innovative for its time. Thank You MaJeana for the photos and Clifton for the history ·
